Michael Bunitsky is married to Janice Daffern, a pastor in the United Church of Christ and a licensed therapist, LCSWC. They have fours sons, two Frederick High graduates and two Linganore graduates.

His teaching career began in 1975 in Prince George’s County at Kent Junior High in Palmer Park. In 1980 he moved to Frederick County to teach at Governor Thomas Johnson High School. He completed his MA in Political Science at Hood and his administrative credentialing at McDaniel College. In 1994-95 he was appointed the Secondary Social Studies Curriculum Specialist.

In that position he developed and implemented curriculum and assessments to meet all state and county requirements. Coordinated staff development to facilitate advancement in instructional strategies, assessment and curriculum implementation. Assisted in personnel placement and retention. Supervised all textbook purchases and approval for secondary social studies. Student activities coordinator for: the Maryland General Assembly Student Page Program in conjunction with the General Assembly; mock trial, in conjunction with Citizenship Law Related Education Mock Trial program; Frederick County Association of Student Councils, which elects the Student Member of the Board of Education; Model UN in conjunction with Hood College and the UNESCO Center for Peace.

Michael was the president of the administrative association from 2010-2014 and chief negotiator in 2015. He has taught at FCC and Mt. St. Mary’s and has applied to Hood as Assistant Professor in Education. He retired from Frederick County Public Schools on February 1, 2016.
